ALEX HEARN
My first memory is of my sister pushing my pram down
the stairs (which is strange because she's younger than
me.)
The mysterious plays a large part in my work -
the ambiguity of the images coupled with a hint of
'realism' .
Modern techniques and tools are useful
though I derive most satisfaction from starting the
image with a pencil and paper. I can frequently be
found in museums, taking rubbings from ancient objects
whilst trying to avoid detection.
The most common
reaction to my images are shock and curiosity (both
of which i see as favourable or amusing at the very
least).
Ancient symbols can hold great strength and
my interest in history, especially from the middle
/far East and Central America has given me a wider
and more individual visual language.
The same image
/ idea evolving or changing in a series reflects my
own views on nature being adaptable and objective.
