MIKE SLOCOMBE

web design/photography:

During my final year at Camberwell, I've found myself specialising and experimenting more in the areas of web design and photography.

I enjoy the immediacy and freedom of expression that the internet provides and have been editing, publishing and coding my personal project - the urban75 e-zine - on-line for the past six months.

The magazine reflects my interest in underground eco/dance/party/protest culture and includes features on rave rip-offs, reclaim the streets, cartoons, football, road protest, as well as the immensely popular 'Punch a Politician' and 'Slap-a-Spice Girl' on-line games.

The site's mix of irreverent political comment, quick-loading graphics, information, humour and fast reporting of underground events have led to a quarter of million hits (visitors) in the past three weeks and major reviews in mainstream media such as US Newsweek, Daily Telegraph, Observer, The Guardian, Independent, Time Out, i-D magazine, MTV worldwide, BBC, ITV, Radio One, etc.

I have also worked on commercial internet projects, authoring and illustrating the extremely successful Snickers Megakick website, and Direct Connection's corporate site (due on-line end of May).

Other published work includes book cover illustration, photographs in Time Out, NME and Melody Maker, commissioned articles in the Daily Telegraph and New Statesman and many flyers/logos/brochures for clubs, theatres and campaign groups.

I also foolishly offered to put this degree show website together single-handedly, and after a hectic, sleepless, caffeine-fuelled 48 hours you are seeing the results.

I hope you like it!

technical stuff: this site was frantically authored and hand-coded using Homesite 2.5, Html Validator, Photoshop 4, Corel Draw 7, Corel Xara and an Umax scanner to a soundtrack of various thumpin' drum'n'bass + techno tunes, the Blue Nile, Innocence Mission and the Sex Pistols.
